Gholston nominated for NFL Rookie of the Week
Bucs rookie defensive end William Gholston, coming off the most productive game of his young career, is one of five finalists for the NFL Rookie of the Week honors.
Gholston, who had 1 1/2 sacks against the Bills, joins fellow nominees like Cincinnati RB Giovani Bernard, Baltimore WR Marlon Brown, Minnesota WR Cordarrelle Patterson and Jets QB Geno Smith. Fans can vote on NFL.com for the award, which will be announced Friday on NFL Network.
"It's just fun to be able to be up for an award," Gholston said. "With everything that's going on, having to work for everyitng and build up to where I am now. I've still got a lot further to go. But it feels good."
Gholston is still getting evaluated each day for the NFL's concussion-related tests, but said he feels good and practiced on Wednesday, hopeful to play Sunday against the 49ers. He's seen his playing time increase in recent weeks, and has 15 tackles with two sacks so far.
"I feel like my pad level and my hand placement and my leverage has gotten better since leaving college," Gholston said. "Every week, it gradually gets better."
