Rookie QB Mike Glennon’s day couldn’t have started off much worse Sunday, with his fumble following a sack on the Bucs first possession returned 30 yards for a touchdown by Falcons S Thomas DeCoud.

But the Bucs were encouraged with how Glennon performed in his first career road start, showing poise and bringing them back within a touchdown on two separate occasions.

“Glennon showed what he’s been showing all year,” WR Mike Williams said. “He went on the road and showed he can handle the pressure.”

Glennon’s mobility continues to be an issue, his 13-yard scramble aside, as he couldn’t escape the rush on 3rd-and 10, leading to S William Moore’s sack/fumble and a 7-0 deficit three minutes into the game.

“They blitzed me and I was looking for my hot guy and wasn’t able to get to him,” Glennon said. “That’s on me. I’ve got to hold onto the ball.”

Glennon finished 26-for-44 for 256 yards and two touchdowns, and did a better job on throwing deep balls, including a 59-yard strike to WR Vincent Jackson in the second quarter.

“Today we consciously wanted to throw the ball down the field and he did that and we got a DPI and completions,” coach Greg Schiano said.

Glennon still averaged just 5.8 yards per attempt, but made some clutch throws on third and fourth downs in their fourth quarter comeback. “The thing you’re encouraged by is we’ve got a group of men in that locker room that will fight their guts out and stick together,” Schiano said. “And we’ve got a young quarterback who continues to progress."
