Goldson suspended again for 1-game for illegal hit vs Falcons

The hit that will cost Dashon Goldson a one-game suspension Sunday came only three plays before a similar helmet-to-helmet strike knocked one of his teammates out of the game.

Goldson was suspended one-game by the NFL Monday for his illegal hit on Atlanta Falcons receiver Roddy White with 3:12 remaining in the second quarter of the Bucs’ 41-28 victory at Raymond James Stadium.

Three plays later, after a 5-yard completion from Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan to tight end Tony Gonzalez, Goldson took a 7-yard run to the pile, lowered his helmet and blasted Bucs’ linebacker Mason Foster in the head. Foster was forced to leave the game with a concussion.

It's the second time the league has suspended Goldson. His one-game sanction for an illegal hit on Saints running back Darren Sproles was overturned on appeal and he was fined $100,000 after a meeting with hearing officer Matt Birk.

He is appealing the suspension handed down Monday.

Goldson was fined $30,000 for striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area in a Week 1 game against the New York Jets.

The penalty was handed down by NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks.

Goldson may not practice this week nor play in the Buccaneers’ game this Sunday against the Detroit Lions or participate in any football activities with the team during the suspension.  Goldson will be reinstated on Monday, November 25.
