Highlights from Day 1 of Bucs-Patriots
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A few of the day’s highlights with the Bucs and Patriots squaring off. . .
*Bucs WR Mike Williams and Patriots CB Aqib Talib – formerly of the Bucs – had an ongoing duel. On the day’s first one-on-one rep, Talib batted down a ball intended for Williams. On their next matchup, Williams dusted Talib with a double move to the inside, catching a pass from QB Josh Freeman.
*Bucs LB Jonathan Casillas blew up Patriots S Duron Harmon when covering a kickoff, coming downhill at full speed and literally putting Harmon on his back for the day’s most violent hit. Casillas is gaining a reputation in camp as a big hitter.
*Patriots QB Tom Brady delivered one of his many dimes when he threw a pinpoint deep ball to WR Danny Amendola down the seams for a touchdown. Amendola beat Bucs LB Lavonte David on the play.
*Bucs K Derek Dimke had a mixed performance in the 2-minute offense period, banging a 47-yard field-goal attempt off the right upright on a wet field. Dimke later converted from 37 yards.
*Patriots DB Tavon Wilson intercepted Bucs QB Mike Glennon on a tipped ball near the goal line that likely would have been returned for a 95-yard touchdown in an actual game scenario.
*Bucs DL Pep Livingston batted down one of Brady’s passes at the line of scrimmage, no doubt a highlight for a young player.
*Bucs QB Josh Freeman had one of his best days of training camp, throwing accurately and timely to his big targets.
*Among the players Freeman hit for big gains was TE Tom Crabtree, who had a long reception in a 2-minute offense period. This comes on the heels of his good performance in the preseason opener and with current starter Luke Stocker (calf) still limited.
