Jameis Winston lawsuit trial delayed until April
The trial in the sexual battery lawsuit against Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston has been pushed back a month.
The case is now scheduled for a jury trial beginning April 3, 2017, according to court records.
The move comes shortly after attorneys for Winston and his accuser, Zephyrhills' Erica Kinsman, asked for an extension on discovery in the case.
Winston was never charged or arrested with a crime after Kinsman accused him of rape in a December 2012 encounter, when both were students at Florida State. She filed the suit in April 2015; he subsequently filed a defamation countersuit against her.
The new discovery deadline is Nov. 1, according to court documents. Dispositive motions are due by Dec. 1, and a final pretrial conference is set for March 21. The trial in the U.S. District Court in Orlando is estimated to last 10 days.
The two sides held a mediation session in Orlando in July.
