Licht makes more changes to Bucs front office
First-year Bucs general manager Jason Licht continues to add new names to his front office in the weeks since the NFL draft, with new titles for a few key personnel executives as well.
-- Former Bucs linebacker Shelton Quarles, who was the team's director of pro scouting last season, remains with the team in a new position as director of football operations. Quarles had been in charge of the team's pro scouting the past three seasons, and it's unclear how his new role fits into the team's front-office hierarchy.
-- Scott Cohen, who was senior personnel advisor last season and has 23 years of NFL front-office experience, steps into Quarles' position as the new director of pro scouting. Quarles and new director of college scouting Mike Biehl, hired from the Chargers last week, will work under new director of player personnel Jon Robinson, who was hired away from the Patriots this month.
Robinson replaced Dennis Hickey, who left to become general manager of the Miami Dolphins, with Biehl replacing Eric Stokes, who is now Hickey's assistant general manager.
-- Among the new hires is former Syracuse offensive line coach Pat Perles, who joins the staff as player personnel scout. Perles, who worked three years with the Chiefs, two as asssitant offensive line coach, spent last season at Syracuse and had joined the Toronto Argonauts in Febuary; the team announced three weeks ago that he had left, citing personal reasons.
-- The team now has two national scouts -- Andy Speyer, hired away from the Eagles by Licht, and Rob McCartney, who worked as a pro scout the last two seasons for the Bucs. The new pro scout is Steve West, who was a scouting assistant last season.
-- Of the team's seven college scouts last season, four return for 2014: Andre Forde, Tony Hardie, Byron Kiefer and Tony Kinkela. Brian Hudspeth, a national scout last year, is now a college scout. From last year's group, Bill Rees, Justin Sheridan and Seth Turner are no longer with the team.
