Plot thickens: Lavonte David sidelined by ankle injury
The Bucs defense, already coping with the suspension of rookie linebacker Kwon Alexander, is now dealing with an even larger potential problem, with weakside linebacker Lavonte David not practicing Thursday after tweaking his right ankle in Wednesday's drills.
Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who missed Sunday's game with a hand injury, was practicing Thursday with his injured left hand heavily wrapped, having said Thursday that he wants to play but must be cleared by team trainers.
With Alexander and David out Thursday, the Bucs had Danny Lansanah -- who was set to step in at middle linebacker -- working in David's place at weakside linebacker, with Bruce Carter (who missed Sunday with a concussion) practicing at middle linebacker. Orie Lemon, re-signed on Wednesday for depth, was working as the strongside linebacker during drills.
The only other Bucs player sidelined Thursday was defensive end Jacquies Smith, who looks to be missing his second straight game this week with a hamstring injury.
