Preseason finale: Bucs trail Redskins 24-10 late

28

August

Greetings from Raymond James Stadium, where the Bucs will close out the preseason tonight against the Redskins, with nearly all the Tampa Bay starters expected to have the night off.

We'll have updates throughout the game here -- and more immediately on Twitter at @gregauman, @MBakerTBTimes and @NFLstroud -- so follow along while you watch Mike Glennon and a band of backups close out the preseason.

10 p.m.: Washington has extended its lead -- short TD by Silas Redd makes it 24-10 with 4:07 to play. Redskins have outgained the Bucs 445-137, so could be much worse.

9:35 p.m.: Solomon Patton makes a great move on the sideline and gets a 25-yard touchdown on pass from Mike Kafka. Patton had said he wanted to show something at receiver in addition to his returns, and he's done that impressively. Redskins 17-10, 3:51 left in the third.

9:25 p.m.: Redskins answer as Colt McCoy gets an 80-yard touchdown pass to Lache Seastrunk -- Anthony Gaitor missed him on a bad angle and he flew down the Bucs sideline for a 17-3 lead.

9:20 p.m.: Points! The Bucs get some passing from Mike Kafka and a personal foul on the Redskins and convert that into a 35-yard field goal by Patrick Murray, who added a touchback on the ensuing kickoff. Redskins 10-3, 7:45 left in the third.

8:50 p.m.: The defense has come up with two end-zone interceptions -- undrafted rookies Keith Lewis and Nate Askew spoiled two Redskins drives. It's 10-0 Washington at the half, but it's not that close -- yard-wise, Redskins are up 197-14.

8:15 p.m.: Mike Kafka is sacked and fumbles, recovered at the 2-yard line. Colt McCoy throws a 2-yard score to Ryan Grant and it's 10-0 Redskins with 14:55 left in the second. This could be a really long game.

8:10 p.m.: Mike Glennon's already gone after one series, so lots of Mike Kafka coming tonight. Bucs trail 3-0 after Kai Forbath -- yes, the same Kai Forbath that once kicked for the Bucs -- hit a 45-yard field goal with 0:40 left in the first quarter.

Nearly all the starters are dressed (but won't be playing) but among those not dressed: Da'Quan Bowers, Will Gholston, Mike James, Mike Jenkins, Major Wright, Rashaan Melvin, Bradley McDougald and Brandon Magee.

Offensive starters: Glennon, Rainey, Pryor, Murphy, Owusu, Brate, Pamphile, Cousins, Allen, Omameh, Meredith. Defensive starters: Solomon, Masifilo, Spence, Means; Glaud, Fletcher, Lansanah; Edwards, Pointer, Gaitor, Tandy.

Bucs are in red jerseys and white pants. Lots more to come ...
