RB Blake Sims among six signed to new deals by Bucs
Practice squads go away at the end of the regular season, and the Bucs signed six players from their practice squad to futures contracts on Monday, including former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims, who was signed last week as a developmental running back.
The Bucs signed Sims and five other young players: OLs Josh Allen and Mike Liedtke, S Isaiah Johnson, TE Tevin Westbrook and CB Cody Riggs. Tampa Bay got a head start on locking up practice squad players last week, promoting three to the active roster in FB Austin Johnson and DE Channing Ward. They also signed RB Russell Hansbrough from the Giants' practice squad.
There are four other players who finished the year on the practice squad but weren't immediately signed: WRs Kendrick Ings and Myles White, OL Kyler Kerbyson and DE Deonte Gibson. NFL teams can expand their rosters from 53 to 90 in the offseason and usually pare down with some cuts after the draft as undrafted free agents are added instead.
