Report: Bucs hire Patriots' college scouting director
Bucs general manager Jason Licht has made his first major front-office hire, bringing in Jon Robinson, the Patriots' director of college scouting for the past five years, ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss reported.
That arrival coincides with the Bucs' current director of college scouting, Eric Stokes, who confirmed to the Times he is leaving to take a job with former Bucs executive Dennis Hickey, now general manager of the Miami Dolphins. Stokes will have the title of assistant general manager in Miami.
Robinson will carry the title of director of player personnel with the Bucs, according to Reiss, which would make him Licht's No. 2 with input on both college and pro personnel decisions. Robinson has worked with the Patriots for the past 12 years, so he overlapped with Licht in both of his stints in New England, initially when Licht was a scout and assistant personnel director in 2001-05 and more recently as a personnel executive from 2009-11.
Before joining the Patriots in 2002, Robinson played defensive line for one season at Air Force and then at Southeast Missouri State. He spent three years as an assistant coach at Nicholls State, then moved up through the scouting ranks with the Patriots. He's been their director of college scouting since 2009.
