Report: Doug Martin to miss 3 weeks with hamstring
The Bucs will be without Pro Bowl running back Doug Martin for about three weeks as he recovers from his hamstring injury, the NFL Network reported Wednesday morning.
Martin, who finished second in the NFL in rushing last season and earned a five-year, $35-million contract from the Bucs, injured his hamstring early in the second quarter of Sunday's 40-7 loss to the Cardinals. The Bucs will have to rely on a combination of Charles Sims, who had more than 1,000 total yards as their No. 2 back last season, and Jacquizz Rodgers, who was signed as a free agent last week and played for coach Dirk Koetter for three years in Atlanta.
If the Bucs held Martin out for three games, that would take them to their Week 6 bye week, giving him a five-week window to recover for a Week 7 return. The Bucs' third running back behind Sims and Rodgers is rookie Peyton Barber, who has yet to carry the ball in an NFL game.
