Darrelle Revis' recovery from ACL surgery is on schedule but are the Bucs moving the target for his return?

When Tampa Bay traded the 13th overall pick in 2013 and a conditional third-rounder next year to the Jets in exchange for Revis, general manager Mark Dominik said he believed Revis would be ready for the first day of training camp in late July. On Wednesday, coach Greg Schiano said Revis is progressing on the schedule monitored by Bucs trainer Todd Toriscelli. But he insisted Revis' target for return is the Bucs first regular season game against the Jets at MetLife Stadium Sept. 8.

Ultimately, getting Revis to the starting line of the 2013 regular season has always been the goal. In fact, it appears Revis may not play much in the preseason -- if at all.

"Again, we're looking for the season, right? So what it takes to get him ready for the season,'' Schiano said. "I think training camp is a tool to get guys ready for the season and I think everybody gets ready differently and I think everybody is prepared at a different point. And that's a hard thing as a coach because you have to look at each guy individually and say, "Okay, this guy is ready so let's just keep him sharp. This guy still needs more work. And we'll play it by ear because there's an added varaible with Darrelle and that's the healing of the knee as well as getting the work with our scheme and getting more familiar with his teammates. But at all costs, we'll weigh his health first and foremost and work with the other things secondarily.''
