Rookie Hargreaves played well in NFL debut, Koetter says
Bucs rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves played every defensive snap in Sunday's 31-24 win against the Falcons, and while he admitted "there was a lot of messing up" in his first NFL game, his coaches liked what they saw.
"Vernon, for his first game in the NFL, going against a guy like Julio Jones, Vernon did a nice job," coach Dirk Koetter said. "First game in the NFL, road game, loud crowd, Julio Jones, Matt Ryan, playing nickel and playing outside, he had a lot on his plate yesterday. He had a couple of plays that got away from him, but we're real encouraged with Vernon and glad we've got him."
The Bucs gave up 334 passing yards to Matt Ryan, using Hargreaves and veteran Brent Grimes on every play and working Alterraun Verner and Jude Adjei-Barimah in as part of the nickel package. The secondary will have their hands full again this week with a future Hall of Famer in Larry Fitzgerald leading Arizona's passing attack.
