Video, interviews from opening day of Bucs rookie minicamp
The Bucs opened their three-day rookie minicamp on Friday afternoon -- they'll be back out today as well -- and we tweeted out a fair amount of video from practice and interviews afterwards we wanted to share here as well.
The minicamp is obviously the first chance to see Bucs rookies in their Tampa Bay uniforms -- there's no contact this week, so it's just "underwear football" as Dirk Koetter put it last week, but still gives fans a glimpse of what's to come.
The biggest debut Friday was first-round pick Vernon Hargreaves, the cornerback from Florida taken with the No. 11 overall pick. Here's a short video of him running through position drills -- he's wearing No. 28 on the right, with undrafted rookie safety Elijah Shumate on the left. Here's another short video of Hargreaves after practice, talking about his first practice and diving into a new playbook. And yes, he's still wearing those "Tampa" cleats that he proudly wore at the combine and at his pro day in Gainesville.
There's more. Here's a first look at rookie safety Ryan Smith of North Carolina Central going through position drills -- he's on the left wearing 29, with tryout player Stanley Absanon, a college teammate of new Bucs defensive end Noah Spence at Eastern Kentucky, on the right. And here's a look at two tryout players on offense -- former Plant and Alabama and Toledo QB Phillip Ely throwing to Mount Union receiver Roman Namdar.
