Oh, well: Information blackout
Media access is always at a coach's discretion, so you go in knowing whatever you have can be taken away at any whim. Well, it has been.
Starting Monday, USF coach Jim Leavitt is tightening up camp as preseason practice ends and the first game week begins. The first half-hour of practice is no longer open to the media and players and assistant coaches are no longer available for comment after practice. It means what little insight could be gleaned from watching a half-hour of stretching and special teams is gone.
I understand from a secrecy/circle-the-wagons perspective why Leavitt does this, but this is still a team competing for all the media attention it can get, and a move like that doesn't help. This, more than any time of year, is a time when Leavitt isn't worried about the media or anything that doesn't directly involve his team and its chances of winning its next game.
