USF student, 19, dies of meningitis
Hard to have a USF blog today without offering a link to our coverage of the tragic news that USF student Rachel Futterman, 19, died Monday from complications due to bacterial meningitis. Here's a link to our Breaking News blog, which has the latest updates from our news staff.
USF coach Jim Leavitt was asked about any health concerns during his weekly news conference Monday.
"I read that last night on the news. I'm not real aware of it, other than what I saw on the news. I would think that would be a real concern. ... It's pretty big. That's something we take very seriously. I'm sure (assistant athletic director) Steve Walz is very aware of it."
No official plans have been made, but it's very likely USF will take a moment of silence to honor Futterman before Friday's football game against West Virginia.
