Rivals.com: 6-foot-11 center commits to USF
Stan Heath has picked up his first commitment for the 2007-08 recruiting class, according to Rivals.com.
The recruiting site reported Monday night that Gene Swindle, a 6-foot-11, 260-pound center from Miami Gulliver Prep, committed to the Bulls. I'd talked Monday afternoon with Swindle's coach at Gulliver, Harry Gordon, who confirmed that Swindle had taken an official visit and "really liked it." Gordon wasn't sure that Swindle had been officially offered by USF coach Stan Heath, and said that Penn State, Nebraska, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Old Dominion were continuing to recruit him.
Gordon said Swindle averaged about 13 points and eight rebounds per game as a junior at Gulliver. He transferred there after playing at Miami Westminster as a freshman. I wasn't able to reach Swindle on Monday, but should be able to follow up and verify his commitment Tuesday.
In other recruiting news, USFnation.com is reporting that Anthony Mains, a three-star defensive end from Naples Golden Gate, committed to the Bulls on Monday, making him USF's 12th commitment. With only 16 seniors on roster, the Bulls are locking up a big chunk of their incoming class far earlier than normal.
