Grissom out 'a while,' Theo Wilson too?

Lots to get to from Monday's afternoon practice, but we'll start with injury updates: Defensive tackle Cory Grissom, perhaps the true freshman most likely to play this fall, has a high ankle sprain and will be "out for a while," according to coach Jim Leavitt. Grissom watched Monday's practice with a boot on his left foot, but was walking briskly on the way to the practice field. There's no immediate timetable for his return. "Those things take a while," Leavitt said.

Two other Bulls remain in boots after being sidelined more than a week -- walk-on linebacker Lucas Darr and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Jeremiah Warren. Leavitt expressed concern about Warren, saying his weight was up to 340 pounds because his physical activity is limited due to the injury. "He can't play that heavy," Leavitt said.

Leavitt also said he's holding cornerback Theo Wilson out of practice until he can resolve academic issues that could keep him from playing this fall. Wilson had taken a course in Tampa this summer after finishing work at Pearl River Community College in Mississippi, and Leavitt said he could practice if he needed to, but he'll stay away from practice until the academic issues are resolved.

"He's still working out academic deals. Whether he'll be eligible or not, we don't know yet," Leavitt said. "We can't count on him right now. I'm not counting on him. He legally could practice right now, but I told him I don't want him around until we figure it all out."

More coming on defensive line coach John Hendrick and a strong push from running back Richard Kelly ...
