Grothe for Heisman? 50-to-1, odds site says
You guys are so good about pointing me to cool things I don't notice myself, so I want to thank all of you who have sent great tips and links for the greater good of the blog. Case in point ...
Bodoglife.com, an Antigua-based gambling site, has issued odds on individual players winning the Heisman Trophy this season. Yes, USF quarterback Matt Grothe is one of 45 players honored with a line of their own: 50-to-1, the site says, which is (oddly) better odds than USF, which gets 75-to-1 odds on winning a national championship from the same site (FSU is 50-1, Miami 60-1).
The Heisman favorite, predictably, is Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, last year's winner, who has 7-2 odds. Ohio State's Beanie Wells is 5-1, Missouri's Chase Daniel is 6-1, and Georgia's Knowshon Moreno is 8-1. Big East players? West Virginia's Pat White is 10-1, Pitt's LeSean McCoy is a bit high at 22-1, and West Virginia's Noel Devine has better odds than Grothe at 30-1. In all, Grothe winds up tied for 25th-best odds, which shouldn't be taken as a slight. For Grothe to really be a Heisman candidate, he probably needs USF to be undefeated, at least going into the West Virginia game.
The site also has Big East odds, with West Virginia so heavily favored they list at 1:1, an even-money bet. USF is next at 5-2, followed by Pittsburgh (3-1), Rutgers (6-1), Cincinnati (7-1), Connecticut (12-1), Louisville (14-1) and Syracuse, respectfully at 40-1.
