Plenty of links, even some basketball ...

Really not that much going on during USF's second day of football practice. Correspondent Joe Rienzi will have an update from there, but for now, I've got plenty of links to share. Later this week, we'll start rolling out daily position breakdowns like we did last year, getting them up and out of the way before the first game week of the season ...

-- Basketball! ESPN.com has a "Big East Shootaround," as comprehensive a league preview as you can ask for (in August), and analyst Jay Bilas has the Bulls picked to finish 16th. "Dominique Jones is one of the best unknowns in the Big East, but that won't be enough," he writes. One of the feature's five big questions is "Can a team climb out of the Big East basement?" ... that's about Rutgers. As the site points out, the pending hardship waiver on forward Gus Gilchrist is huge for the Bulls.

-- As we wrote yesterday, lots of newspapers were in Tampa on Monday for USF's first practice. Here are the writeups from Fort Myers, Lakeland and Miami. USF's official site is doing their own blogging with some nuggets you won't find anywhere else -- their Training Camp Central is here.

-- More preseason rankings: Sportingnews.com has USF No. 21, but also thinks the Bulls have 20 returning starters; ESPN.com's Power Rankings have the Bulls No. 18, with West Virginia No. 8, Kansas No. 21 and Pitt No. 24.

-- Former USF running back Chad Simpson, who played his final two years at Morgan State, is turning heads as an undrafted rookie in the Colts' preseason camp, according to Examiner.com.

-- More on USF's latest oral commitment, Gainesville tackle Kendall Kelly, from the Gainesville Sun's Cliff Olsen.

-- Former USF receiver DeAndrew Rubin was waived last week by the Orlando Predators. He was fifth on the team in receiving yards with 315 on 25 catches, including seven touchdowns. Only in Arena Football could seven touchdowns rank you a distant fifth place on your own team ...
