Breathing room: Ford TD puts USF up 17-0

For the first time in more than two quarters, USF got on the scoreboard, extending its lead on FIU to 17-0 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Mike Ford with 13:10 left in the fourth quarter.

The Bulls have struggled in the red zone, with only 10 points to show for their first four trips inside the FIU 10-yard line, but Ford got his second touchdown running off right tackle. Quarterback Matt Grothe came up with a big run on third-and-9 from the FIU 14, setting up the touchdown two plays and two penalties later.

Ford's had a lackluster night with 23 yards on 12 carries, but he's been the only Bull who can find the end zone, so by that, he's been a significant part of USF's 17-0 lead.

FIU has crossed USF's 35-yard line for the first time, but Dustin Rivest's 40-yard field goal attempt went wide right with 6:24, keeping the shutout intact a little longer. If USF's defense can hold, it'll be the Bulls' first shutout since Syracuse in 2005.
