As you may have already heard, Kansas State coach Ron Prince won't be back for the 2009 season, leaving an opening that will draw a lot of attention to USF coach Jim Leavitt. Leavitt was co-defensive coordinator for the Wildcats before coming to USF in 1995 and was courted for their head coaching opening three years ago before getting a lucrative extension to stay at USF.

Leavitt's name is sure to come up again as a potential target for the Wildcats, and we asked him about the job after Thursday's practice. His response isn't an all-out "I'm not interested in the job" denial, but here's what he had to say: "You guys know this is my heart and soul. I'm very fortunate to be here. I think it's the best job in the country."

Leavitt's name has already been floated as a possibility for high-level jobs at schools like Clemson and Tennessee. Kansas State isn't as big a job, but it's a situation he's familiar with; the interest on the Wildcats' end has been established. Unless Leavitt dismisses the possibility entirely, speculation about his being a potential match there is likely to continue until the job is filled.
