Moffitt joins Saints' practice squad

Former USF linebacker Ben Moffitt has another chance to make an NFL roster, getting signed Wednesday to the practice squad of the New Orleans Saints.
It's Moffitt's third NFL team, having spent the summer with the Houston Texans before getting cut in August, then spending less than a week on the Bucs' practice squad last month. If Moffitt can show enough to be elevated to the Saints' active roster, New Orleans comes to Tampa to play the Bucs on Nov. 30.
-- One roster note from USF -- former walk-on tight end Quincy Okolie, out with a medical redshirt this season after suffering a neck injury in preseason, won't be able to play football again because of his injury. Okolie, placed on scholarship this fall, went into the season expected to contribute at defensive end, and USF coach Jim Leavitt had said he would return to tight end in 2009, but his football career is now over.
Okolie was actually on the bench in warmups for USF's basketball scrimmage against West Florida on Tuesday night, and while he has an interest in joining the basketball team as a walk-on, he has not practiced with the team and isn't expected to do so this season because of the hardship football scholarship. If down the road he were somehow cleared by doctors for basketball -- which has less contact and injury risk than football -- there's a small possibility he could join the team as a walk-on next season.
