Good start: 4,000 tickets sold for St. Pete
USF's ticket office has sold more than 4,000 tickets for the St. Petersburg Bowl in the first two days since the Bulls were invited, according to USF's sports information office.
The Bulls, who play Memphis at Tropicana Field on Dec. 20, have not yet sold any student tickets or tickets for athletic staff and players' families, so it's a promising start for a game just 32 miles from campus. USF is expected to announce a ticket promotion for students on Tuesday, with part of the $30 price subsidized by USF athletics. USF is asking its fans to buy bowl tickets through the school's ticket office so those tickets can count toward the Bulls' allotment.
St. Petersburg Bowl executive director Brett Dulaney said Saturday that the bowl is optimistic about being able to get a sellout at Tropicana, which seats 33,000 fans for football. USF coach Jim Leavitt and Memphis coach Tommy West will meet with local media at a bowl news conference Tuesday afternoon.
