Boca Ciega DE Forte commits to Bulls
USF has picked up its fourth oral commitment from a busy recruiting weekend, as Julius "Juju" Forte, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound defensive end from Boca Ciega, chose the Bulls on Monday night.
"The visit solidified that I want to be a Bull," said Forte, a three-star recruit according to both major recruiting sites. "I liked the coaches, the campus, the facilities, but the deciding factor was that it felt like home when I was there."
Forte said he chose the Bulls over scholarship offers from Louisville, Purdue, Mississippi, Kentucky, N.C. State and North Carolina, among others. He's the second big defensive end to commit this weekend, and said Saturday's commitment from Armwood's Ryne Giddins helped him out: "You want to put yourself where you have great talent all around you."
Like Giddins, Forte said he's eager to spend a year learning alongside All-American end George Selvie. "It'll be a great learning experience, just being around him. There's a lot he can teach me," he said.
Forte said he is fully qualified academically and said he will not take any other visits before National Signing Day next month.
"I'm good and committed," he said. "They've always been a school I was very interested in, but I wanted to give myself options. Now I'm all set."
The slew of recent commitments have USF's recruiting class rising in the national rankings -- both major sites have the Bulls with the Big East's third-best class, behind West Virginia and Rutgers. Scout.com has USF at No. 31 nationally, while Rivals.com (which hadn't registered the Forte commit when this was posted) had USF at No. 41 nationally. The current rankings (S/R) are West Virginia (17/20), Rutgers (26/34), USF (31/41), Pitt (36/47), Cincinnati (51/60), Connecticut (71/76), Louisville (76/82) and Syracuse (105/113).
