Ex-USF QB Blackwell arrested on DUI charge

Former USF quarterback Marquel Blackwell, now the head football coach at Freedom High School, was arrested early Monday morning in Tampa on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, according to police reports.

Blackwell, 29, was arrested by Tampa Police officers at 3:29 a.m. at the corner of Columbus Drive and Himes Avenue. According to the arrest report, he refused a blood alcohol test and was booked at 5:17 a.m. into the Orient Road jail, where he remained Monday morning, held on $500 bond. He could not be immediately reached for comment.

Blackwell is the all-time leading passer in USF history after starting from 1999-2002. He holds the school records for career passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions and attempts. He has been Freedom's head coach for the past two seasons after working as the team's offensive coordinator during the 2006 season.
