Former Hudson kicker Eric Schwartz, who booted
eight field goals during the Cobras' magical 10-3 season in 2005, will
kick for USF for the remainder of spring
drills.

Schwartz, a 21-year-old junior, was invited to stick around after
trying out with a handful of other kickers during the initial days of
the Bulls' spring workouts. Whether the invitation will extend to the
2009 season remains unclear.

"I think they might want to just give (returning kicker) Maikon Bonani some competition or something," Schwartz said today.

Schwartz, also a sure-handed possession receiver for the Cobras, was a Times
first-team all-North Suncoast pick as a senior. He converted 31 of 33
extra points and eight of his 14 field-goal tries including a long of
41 yards. At least twice in pregame warmups, he booted a 65-yarder.

Bonani,
a sophomore from Lake Wales, converted 31 of 32 PATs last season, but
hit only three of eight field-goal attempts from 40 yards or more. He
is USF's only scholarship kicker, though senior punter Delbert Alvarado
also can kick.

USF's spring instrasquad game is April 11 at Raymond James Stadium.
