Memorial baseball event in Bleakley's honor

A charity baseball tournament hoping to raise donations for a memorial scholarship has been established in memory of former USF tight end Will Bleakley, who was lost at sea with two former NFL players after a tragic boating trip on March 1.

The tournament, which will be played April 30 to May 3 in St. Petersburg and Clearwater, hopes to raise $5,000 toward a USF scholarship in Bleakley's name for a high school graduate "who exemplifies the courage, kindness and commitment that Will showed all of us," according to the tournament's official site, wb84.com.

Nearly $2,000 has already been raised toward that total, according to the site, with area 18-and-older baseball teams invited to participate in the tournament at a cost of $250 per team. The championship game will be played at Clearwater's Bright House Networks Field, the spring home of the Philadelphia Phillies and home of this year's Big East baseball tournament in May.
