USF's football team made a splash with new Under Armour uniforms last fall, and the Bulls' men's and women's basketball teams will follow suit this coming season, becoming some of the first NCAA programs to sign on to wear UA apparel on the hardwood.

USF has gotten out of its existing contracts -- adidas for the men's team, Nike for the women -- a year early, and will have a new look for the 2009-10 basketball season. According to Under Armour, the Bulls are just the fourth NCAA program to sign on for basketball, joining Auburn, Maryland and Texas Tech.

USF's original contract with Under Armour, officially signed last fall, covered football, baseball, softball, soccer, golf and tennis, and stated that the Bulls would negotiate exclusively with Under Armour in basketball after the current contracts expired.

No financial figures are available, but the basketball contract should be a lucrative deal for USF, which is to be paid $1 million over five years under the original contract, along with receiving at least $1.9 million in Under Armour apparel. New agreements should have all of USF athletics wearing the UA logo, including volleyball and track.

-- Former USF safety Louis Gachette, who had accepted an invitation to work out at the Dolphins' rookie minicamp, has decided to try out for the Packers this weekend instead. "The Packers' need for a safety was probably a little greater," agent Edwin Dix said. "You only get one shot at this, so you have to be smart about where you get that look."
