USF coach Stan Heath has landed the biggest target in his spring recruiting efforts, as Jarrid Famous, a 6-foot-11 center from Westchester Community College, has committed to USF.

Famous, who was also considering Arizona, Missouri and Seton Hall, is one of the nation's top unsigned junior college recruits and should give USF much-needed help in the post. He finished third in Division I junior colleges with 25.2 points per game as a sophomore, and second nationally with 13.6 rebounds per game.

He committed during a personal visit from Heath on Sunday, immediately after he made a campus visit to Arizona, according to Westchester assistant Tyrone Mushatt. You can get a first look at Famous by checking out this three-minute clip on Youtube.com.

Famous had intended to wait until Wednesday to announce his decision at his team's postseason banquet. Westchester coach Winston Nicholas, who has battled pancreatic cancer for the past year, passed away on Monday morning, and the team has delayed its banquet with funeral services likely to be held Wednesday.

Who will join Famous in signing with the Bulls this week? It won't be junior college forward Daequon Montreal, who visited USF earlier this month and had the Bulls atop his list. USF apparently has backed off from Montreal, allowing him to visit Boise State this past weekend and commit there, because another power forward came available.

That recruit is Tampa King senior Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound power forward who had signed with Georgia Southern in the fall, but has since requested a release from his letter of intent after coach Jeff Price resigned last month. Fitzpatrick was honored as the Times' Suncoast Player of the Year as a senior after he averaged a double-double (14.0 points, 11.3 rebounds).

Fitzpatrick, who had offers from Florida State and Miami when he chose Georgia Southern, has worked out in open gyms at USF in recent weeks and impressed players and coaches. USF has gotten a release to speak with Fitzpatrick, who would be the Bulls' first signee from Hillsborough County since Zaronn Cann in fall 2004.

-- Another update: Lexington combo guard Vee Sanford, whose father Vince played at USF, has committed to Georgetown. Sanford was someone that Heath saw in person, but it does not appear the Bulls made a concerted effort to get him. I'd think that's a function of positional need more than anything else -- with four guards already in the class, Heath opted not to pursue guard prospects like Sanford and Akeem Richmond. Looks like Richmond is headed to Rhode Island, Western Kentucky or Charlotte.
