Baseball falls 8-5 in opener at Notre Dame
USF baseball opened a key three-game series at Notre Dame with an 8-5 loss, cutting the Bulls' conference lead to just a game and a half over Louisville with five games left in Big East play.
The Bulls (30-18, 17-5) led 4-1 after four innings thanks to a 3-run home run by Stephen Hunt, but Notre Dame scored three runs in the fifth, then struck for four runs in the sixth off reliever Matt Quevedo. The Bulls gave up three hits in the inning, but helped Notre Dame with three walks, an error, a balk and a passed ball, making three of the four runs unearned.
Here's the game story from USF's official site.
Second-place Louisville (15-6) earned a 10-8 win at third-place St. John's (14-8) to pull within a game and a half of the Bulls. USF has two more games at Notre Dame, then finishes the regular season at Louisville, with the Big East tournament in two weeks in Clearwater.
