Still going: Heath looking at Virginia forward
Another new name to mention as a possibility for a scholarship for men's basketball: The Bulls are giving a close look at Chris Evans, an athletic 6-foot-7, 220-pound small forward from Petersburg, Va.
USF's coaches haven't seen Evans in person yet, according to his AAU coach with the Petersburg Elite, but he has talked over the phone with USF coach Stan Heath, as well as Tommy Tonelli. Elite coach Ty Smith said USF is in the process of going over his transcripts, with the next step being to line up a campus visit.
"His upside is tremendous," Smith said. "He's a skilled, athletic forward who has the abliity to beat you off the dribble. He's got great timing for blocking shots, great court awareness, and he can rebound well."
One more thing: Evans can dunk, as this video clip attests. Check out the Elite official site, and you'll see he has teammates headed to Virginia Tech, Richmond and Delaware.
USF is the only major-conference school Evans is being courted by -- the top challenger would be Quinnipiac, though he recently visited Kent State and has been recruited by Central Florida and Hampton. It's too early to tell whether he's a match for the Bulls, but it's clear Heath is still trying to find a match for his last scholarship this spring.
