USF's Joyer, Pace relay win at Golden South
More track success for USF football, as incoming freshman offensive lineman Kamran Joyer won the shot put Saturday at the Golden South meet in Orlando, and four incoming freshmen from Miami Monsignor Pace easily won the 4-by-100 meter there as well.
Pace's relay of Kayvon Webster, Sterling Griffin, Derrick Hopkins and Jeffrey Allen won with a time of 40.65 seconds, a full second ahead of the rest of the field. The time is just short of their state-meet record time of 40.54 seconds.
Joyer's mark of 56 feet, 2 inches wasn't the dominant margin he had in winning a state championship earlier this month, but he still won by more than a foot over his closest challenger.
Future Bulls pole vaulter Michael Vani took second in his event, clearing 16 feet, 6 inches.
