Former Bulls DE Kobel signs with Jets
Here's an unexpected name added to the list of former USF players trying to make NFL rosters: Craig Kobel, who played defensive end for the Bulls, has been signed as a free-agent linebacker by the New York Jets.
Kobel, who last played for USF in 2004, had worked out for the Jets at a rookie tryout camp in May but was not signed at the time. Kobel played Arena Football in 2006, played in NFL Europa in 2007 and went through preseason camp with the Eagles that same year but was cut with an injury settlement. He had been drafted to play for the Florida team in the startup All-American Football League, but the league never got off the ground.
Kobel is the second former USF player in Jets camp -- receiver Huey Whittaker is there as well.
