USF's Jones misses cut for U.S. hoops team

USF guard Dominique Jones, who has spent the last three days in Colorado Springs trying out for the U.S. entry in next month's World University Games, was not among the 12 players chosen for the team.

Here's the official release from USA Basketball's official site.

"All 16 players at trials are very good players," said head coach Bo Ryan from the University of Wisconsin. "Everybody that competed worked very hard against one another at a very high level. The toughest part was getting down to the 12 players. I don't want to take anything away from the guys who didn't make it, but the 12 who are on the final list are the ones that if you look at the overall picture -- offense, defensive, rebounding, things like that, this was the 12 that stood out."

Four players didn't make the squad -- Jones and fellow guard Nic Wise of Arizona, Iowa State power forward Craig Brackins and Purdue center JaJuan Johnson.

-- We mentioned the name of Virginia forward Chris Evans last month as a possibility for USF's last scholarship, but the Bulls haven't pursued the athletic swingman. Evans has made an official visit to Central Florida, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
