Wesley Chapel center Joyer signs with Louisville
USF's women's soccer program has a strong presence on Canada's under-20 national team, with three Bulls -- defender Bahar Sansar and midfielders Gina Pacheco and Taylor Patterson -- making the Canadian team, which plays three matches against U.S. national teams in the next two weeks.
The Canadian u-20 team started camp in Colorado on Sunday, and will play an exhibition against the U.S. national u-18 team this coming Sunday, followed by international friendlies against the U.S. u-20 team on July 14 and 16. The Canadian team will compete in next year's CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship next year.
Pacheco, a 19-year-old from Ottawa, started all but one game for USF as a freshman, but Sansar and Patterson have yet to play for the Bulls. Sansar, from Quebec, took a medical redshirt last season as she recovered from a knee injury suffered while with Canada's u-20 team, and Patterson, 18, is an incoming freshman from Alberta.
-- USF has unveiled its fan-based commercial for football season tickets on its official site.
-- The Orlando Sentinel ranks what it says are the state's top 10 most powerful people in college athletics. Nobody from USF makes the list, while UCF president John Hitt is No. 6, ahead of FSU coach Bobby Bowden. Wait, there's more: There's nobody from USF in the next 10 included in this story, while UCF coach George O'Leary makes it in at No. 12. Florida Atlantic coach Howard Schnellenberger is No. 18. Perhaps at the next NCAA Board of Directors meeting, USF president Judy Genshaft can ask her fellow board members how she can make the Sentinel's top 20 next year.
