Nine days before the start of fall practice, USF freshman linebacker Sam Barrington was at the Orient Road jail on Tuesday afternoon, having turned himself in on a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license.

Barrington, 18, was released on $250 bond at 4:09 p.m. Wednesday, less than two hours after he was booked through the jail's self-arrest program, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office records.

Barrington's license was suspended after he failed to appear in court in Jacksonville after a citation in January. USF police issued a warrant for his arrest on June 25 for driving with a suspended license with knowledge, and he was also cited by Temple Terrace police for speeding on July 7. The January citation in Jacksonville was for not carrying a driver's license and for driving a vehicle in unsafe condition.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound freshman is one of the highest rated members of USF's incoming recruiting class, having signed with USF over an offer from the University of Miami.
