Morning links: Magazines, Twitter and more ...
I'm supposed to be off this week, taking a week of vacation from the Times while I cover the NBA summer league in Orlando for NBA.com, but I will try to keep the blog updated here and there as news happens.
For now, that's just emptying out a weekend full of links, starting with two stories in the Washington Post about how college coaches are using Twitter.com to communicate to recruits, and how they're also doing the mundane things like reviewing movies and posting songs of the day.
Of course, you can follow this blog on Twitter.com -- trying to build up followers without getting a bunch of spammers among the following.
-- This was a good weekend to write the "preseason magazine consensus" story -- the Lakeland Ledger did just that, with a good chart that shows USF's ranking in each magazine, as high as No. 25 or as low as No. 46 nationally. The Tuscaloosa News takes the five major magazines' top 25s and cobbles together a combined ranking, which has USF at the tail end of the "also receiving votes." Again, no Big East team in the aggregate top 25 ....
-- FSU site Tomahawknation.com takes a look at the challenging season again for FSU rising sophomore Andrew Datko, the left tackle who will go up against USF's George Selvie and other future NFL draft picks.
-- Bad news for Selvie, as Playboy isn't bringing its college football All-America team out to the mansion for a photo shoot this year.
