S.C. receiver Hills opts for Tennessee State
Former South Carolina receiver Joe Hills, who left the Gamecocks last week and had expressed an interest in transferring to USF, will instead continue his playing career at I-AA Tennessee State.
Hills said Monday he had hoped to play at USF, but because fall classes started today, he wasn't in a position to get admitted in time for the fall semester. Robinson said USF had suggested he attend a community college this fall and join the program in January, but he's opted for Tennessee State, which will allow him to play this fall without sitting out a year as he would at a I-A program.
Hills said he knew of Tennessee State because the offensive line coach there, Cedric Williams, was a graduate assistant at South Carolina during his two years with the Gamecocks. Tennessee State has two other I-A transfers from Sarasota, former FSU offensive lineman Dumaka Atkins and former Florida linebacker John Jones.
