Just as college baseball teams invariably lose a few signees to the draft each summer, they also manage to add a few players right before the fall semester begins. So in addition to the five incoming freshmen we reported on this summer and transfer pitcher Jimmy Moran, who we wrote about last month, USF announced the addition of four more newcomers to the baseball program on Thursday.

It looks the biggest impact may come from sophomore catcher Eric Sim, a transfer from Colby Community College in Kansas who hit six home runs last season. "Eric is a big physical kid who has a chance to make an immediate impact," coach Lelo Prado said in a statement. "He
produced in junior college and had a quality summer with a wood bat. We are
expecting a quick transition to the Division I level out of Eric."

Another junior college transfer, second baseman Roberto Sanchez, hit seven home runs at Indian River Community College and will compete for a reserve role in the middle infield. Two local freshmen -- Palm Harbor outfielder Anthony Diaz and Sarasota Cardinal Mooney outfielder Nick Conforti -- have also joined the program.
