USF coaches to stick with Murphy at corner

Senior cornerback Jerome Murphy was benched for the second half Saturday after he was beaten on a deep pass and a touchdown against Louisville, but defensive coordinator Joe Tresey said the senior will start in his final home game Saturday.

"We plan on going with Murphy again," Tresey said. "He's a senior, he's been a three-year starter. If he's struggling, I go with the next guy. Hopefully he does what he needs to do."

True freshman Kayvon Webster took over for Murphy in the second half and Louisville was held to one touchdown. Leavitt said Murphy played well on special teams in the second half and will have another chance to prove himself as a key part of the defense.

"We just felt like we needed to get him geared up pretty good again," USF coach Jim Leavitt said. "Just play more disciplined, those kinds of things."
