USF women rebound with win vs. St. Peter's
Had USF's women's basketball team lost tonight, it would have taken considerable blog-headline-pun restraint to not try something involving "Bulls' ship runs into St. Peter's 'berg" ... so it's probably better that the Bulls rebounded nicely with an 88-72 win against St. Peter's.
"We've got to get a lot better in the next two months to be competitive in the Big East," said coach Jose Fernandez, who returned to the bench after missing the opener while he was hospitalized by diverticulitis, a painful inflammation in the wall of the large intestine.
The Bulls got a big night from senior guard Janae Stokes, who had 25 points off the bench, and senior center Jessica Lawson added 24, with freshman guard KaNeisha Saunders scoring 20 off the bench. USF trailed 31-28 at the half, then exploded for 60 points in the second half, looking much better than they did in an overtime loss to Florida A&M on Friday night.
We'll be live-blogging from the men's game against Virginia, starting in a half-hour or so ...
