I had to check to make sure this was a postseason and not preseason team, but four players from USF's defense were named to Phil Steele's first-team All-Big East team: defensive end George Selvie, linebacker Kion Wilson, cornerback Jerome Murphy and safety Nate Allen.

Wilson and Allen aren't surprising -- Wilson finished second in the league with 69 tackles in conference play, and Allen led the league with four interceptions in league games. Murphy was second among Big East cornerbacks with 51 tackles and had two interceptions, but was also beaten on deep passes and responsible for costly penalties in the Bulls' losses.

Selvie did not rank in the Big East's top 20 in sacks or tackles for loss, with just five TFLs and 1.5 sacks in seven conference games. He got the nod over Pittsburgh's Greg Romeus, who had 5.5 sacks in league play, as well as USF's Jason Pierre-Paul, who made the second team and ranked fourth in the conference with eight TFLs in league play.

The only Bulls offensive players to make Steele's three all-conference teams were receiver Carlton Mitchell and guard Zach Hermann, who made the third team. Both missed significant time with injuries -- Hermann missed USF's last four games with a bulging disc in his neck, and Mitchell missed three games with a high ankle sprain.

In terms of total players honored on the three teams, USF's seven players matched Louisville for the least among the league's eight teams. Syracuse had eight, though with no first-team selections. Pittsburgh had the most, with 17 total selections and six first-teamers -- 10 Panthers offensive players made Steele's all-conference teams -- followed by Cincinnati (14), Connecticut (14), West Virginia (12) and Rutgers (12).
