Daron Rose, the former Jefferson and Florida State tackle who had committed to play for Jim Leavitt at USF this fall, said Thursday that he hasn't heard from any Bulls coaches since the coaching change and won't be coming to USF.

Rose, a former starter for the Seminoles who has one year of eligibility remaining, said he's looking at two choices: New Mexico, where he visited last weekend, and Division II North Alabama, where Terry Bowden is now coaching. He's visiting North Alabama this weekend.

"Once the whole deal with Coach Leavitt went down, I was done with USF," Rose said. "That coaching staff (and offensive line coach Mike Simmonds, who coached him at Jefferson) was the coaches that I knew."

Rose, who is attending ASA Institute, a junior college in Brooklyn, N.Y., still must serve a three-game suspension from his days at Florida State and the academic scandal there. As was the case with receiver Josh Bellamy, it appears that new coach Skip Holtz has focused more on four-year recruits as opposed to some of the previous commitments who would have shorter stays at USF.
