USF star Gus Gilchrist getting closer to returning from ankle injury
University of South Florida sophomore forward Gus Gilchrist, who's been out with a severely sprained right ankle since Dec. 7, returned to the court Tuesday. Sort of, any way.
He was set to do some shooting and moving around, albeit not with his teammates, coach Stan Heath said. He had been rehabbing the injury, which included running and jumping in the pool, before Tuesday.
"That'll answer some questions for us as we see what he does,'' Heath said.
He still doesn't expect Gilchrist, who was averaging a team-high 18.8 points and 7.4 rebounds through the first eight games, to be back for Thursday's game against Seton Hall or Sunday against Pittsburgh, but the Feb. 3 game against Georgetown is more likely.
