Kicker Kloss headed to Florida, not USF
Naples Barron Collier kicker Marvin Kloss, offered a "grayshirt" scholarship to join the Bulls in January, said Monday he will instead accept an offer to walk on at Florida, as long as he's admitted into school with the Gators.
"If they can get me in, I'm going up there," said Kloss, who visited the Gainesville campus this past weekend and said Florida assistant Steve Addazio would be taking his information to the school's admissions office on Wednesday. "I want to play right away, and they're a lot better scholarship-wise, with just one kicker and one punter on scholarship."
With test scores and a grade-point average strong enough to earn a Florida Bright Futures scholarship, Kloss said he expects to be admitted to UF. Kloss, who hopes to compete for the kickoff job with the Gators this fall, had the promise of a scholarship in January at USF, but he's confident he'll be able to show enough to get one quickly at Florida.
USF already will have three kicking specialists on scholarship this fall -- kicker Maikon Bonani and punters Justin Brockhaus-Kann and Chris Veron, plus senior walk-on Eric Schwartz, the team's primary kicker last season.
