Before spring football, a little golf for Holtz
Times golf writer Rodney Page caught up with Skip Holtz at Innisbrook on Monday and was kind enough to file this note:
Things get serious Tuesday for USF football coach Skip Holtz when the Bulls open spring practices, but Monday was a day to play golf and have fun. Holtz played in the Shelton Quarles Celebrity Pro-Am.
He said he hasn’t had much of a chance to play golf since becoming the Bulls coach.
"Without exaggeration, this is the first time I’ve touched the clubs
since June," Holtz said. "Once you get into the season you stick them
away and you just don’t have a chance. But I love the game."
Holtz says he has been as low as a 2 handicap, but now he is a 10.
After his Monday round, the clubs will go in the closet until spring
practice is over. It’s time to start finding answers to questions.
"Ever since I got here people have been asking me, 'How are you guys
going to be?,'" Holtz said. "I always tell them, 'I’ll let you know
after Tuesday. I haven’t seen B.J. Daniels throw a pass or anybody
catch one.' So we’ll see."
