Some of the more prominent American Athletic Conference coaches spent part of Monday morning effectively dodging political talk and/or proving they practically are sequestered from society during football season.

During the league's weekly teleconference, the Hartford Courant's John Altavilla asked several coaches about Donald Trump's recent "locker-room" comments regarding women, and whether that perpetuates a negative stereotype in men's athletics.

"Honestly, I don't even have any idea of what you're even talking about," Connecticut coach Bob Diaco said. "And I'm sure that's a sad commentary that I'm locked in here, but I really have no clue what you're even talking about."

Houston's Tom Herman seemed similarly unaware of the moment's most scorching political topic, addressed at length during the second presidential debate only 14 or so hours before.

"I actually really don't know what you're talking about," Herman said. "I know (Trump) is a bit of a character and I know that he's the Republican (presidential) nominee and Hillary Clinton's the Democratic nominee, but beyond that I really don't know anything specifically about what's going on."

And so it went for most of the teleconference (USF's Willie Taggart didn't get the question). Navy's Ken Niumatalolo, the first coach to get the question, didn't plead ignorance. He just pled the fifth.

"I'm gonna stay as far away as I can from any of that kind of stuff," Niumatalolo said.
