All 4 local USF commits sticking to word
Even as volatility percolates in the final stage of recruiting season, the local guys committed to USF have remained immune to the "flip" frenzy.
Which is to say, they're staying put.
All four of the Bulls' current Hillsborough County commitments appear locks to sign with USF on Wednesday. Hillsborough ATH Duran Bell Jr., Jefferson OG Jean Marcellus, Armwood S Mekhi Lapointe and Tampa Catholic CB Bentlee Sanders all reaffirmed their respective pledges after recent official visits.
"Hundred-percent committed to USF," Sanders said Thursday.
So are Bell, Lapointe and Marcellus, according to their high school coaches. Matter of fact, all have scheduled times for their on-campus signing ceremonies Wednesday.
At this point, USF appears to have 12 non-binding commitments including WR Jernard Phillips, who has enrolled. Currently, the group is ranked 10th in the American Athletic Conference by 247Sports, which recruiting analysts say offers zero reflection of Charlie Strong's recruiting chops.
"He's always been a great recruiter," said Steve Wiltfong, director of recruiting for 247Sports. "So to sit there and act like he forgot how to cook dinner is just asinine. It is what it is right now. And given time, Charlie's gonna do what Charlie does, which is recruit well."
