Backup LB Nick Holman transferring
USF redshirt sophomore LB Nick Holman, who totaled five tackles in 11 games as a redshirt freshman last season, announced Tuesday night via Twitter that he's transferring.
Holman led the White team with five tackles in the April 16 Green and White intrasquad game, and was listed as the backup to senior Nigel Harris at weakside linebacker on the post-spring depth chart. The Alabama native seemed to make strides this spring after a 2015 season limited to backup duty and special teams.
A four-year starter at Bob Jones High, Holman logged 104 tackles and three sacks for an 11-2 team as a senior. He played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game and was rated his state's 32nd-best prospect by Scout.com.
USF has three players on its middle linebacker depth chart, with sophomore Danny Thomas (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) probably the most suited physically to slide to the weak side.
